Description

A Union Pacfic (ex-Southern Pacfic) SD45 #2682 and a Norfolk Southern (ex-Conrail) GP38-2 haul a string of autoracks (carring General Motors SUV'S) through North Jackson. Ohio.
Built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in the late 1960's. The SD45 was powered by a 20 cylinder prime mover rated at 3600 horsepower (almost double that of GP38-2 trailing it). Like the muscle cars of the same era the #2682 was big and powerful and now.........very rare.

New Jersey used to be littered with SD45's But most of them are out in the mid-west now and whatever was left has been retired, except for a select few. Back when the Erie Lackawanna and the Penn Central where around, and even Conrail, they where everywhere. NS and CSX dont like them very much though so they are kinda rare now. I like the foggy effect on the photo.

Also the UP logo on the point of the SP unit is a really good part of the shot. Good stuff.
