This Brings Back Memories.....

Description

Here is a close up of the car. [link]
When my friend Mike asked me if I would scrap a car for him, I told him yes. I was shocked to find out that the car I was taking to the crusher was a 1986 Chevrolet Nova (victim of a blown head gasket). Now kids I didn't always own a fleet of 3/4 ton beasties. As a matter of fact my first car was tan 1986 Chevy Nova CL! I loved that little car! Seeing this red one brought back a flood of memories.
I bought my Nova in June 1995, with money my Grandmother had gave me, from the Akron Auto Auction. The price... a whopping $300! Now the car did need some work, but I did a lot of the repairs myself, with my dad of course.
Now I didn't have my license yet so I just drove it around the farm. I even hauled hay and grain to feed the cows in it!
I also did a few stupid things as well. Around the time I bought the car, TNN began to run episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard. So I spent quite a few days tearing through fields and through the woods. The result of which was a split fuel tank.
When I got my license in Novmember 1995, I drove every where! I could go far on $10.00 of gas. ;)
My dad sold my Nova for me in November of 1996 when I bought my 1986 Ford Ranger (my first pickup). Now I am not afraid to admit that I cried a little when the new owners drove off in my old Nova. I guess it was because this was my first taste of freedom.
I learned a lot from that little car, and I still do kind of miss it. Maybe one of these days I'll post a few pictures of it.

Aw, that is so sad how you had to see your car go like that, sounds like you had a ton of fun with it though. :)
